About Us...

The Harms family has been providing quality sheet metal work to the Peoria area since the mid 1800's. George Harms, born in 1857, was the first in a long line of sheet metal workers. All six of George's sons were in the heating and sheet metal business around the turn of the century. In 1939 the George's grandsons started Standard Sheet Metal Works in a shop on North Sheridan Road. Jay Harms, George's grandson, purchased his brother Ellis' stock in the early 1970's and became the President of Standard Sheet Metal Works. John Harms, son of Jay, changed the name of the business to Standard Heating and Cooling in the 1980's to better service the homeowner's heating and cooling needs. In the mid 80's, John Harms, the great grandson of George Harms, took over Standard Heating and Cooling. A firm commitment and dedication through the decades had built a strong, reputable company. Today, the tradition continues with John Harms working along side his daughter, Lindsay. Lindsay is the 5th generation Harms to work in the sheet metal industry. Together they offer their customers the exceptional service that can only come from decades of experience. Their hard work, integrity and customer satisfaction speaks for itself. The company has grown in size to include thirty employees and fourteen service and installation vehicles.

Estimator/Project Manager: Joshua Bonnette

Josh graduated from Bradley University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While attending Bradley, Josh worked as a manager and salesman at a local area pool and spa retailer. Though Josh views his college education as one of his greatest accomplishments, it is his experience in sales that taught him what he views as the key to successful business; communication and customer satisfaction.

Josh considers his education as an engineer a responsibility to conduct honest business practices and provide his skills and knowledge as needed to benefit the public good. Josh’s devotion to this ideal is best represented in his acceptance and adherence to the principles outlined by the Order of the Engineer.

Community and relationships are two factors that Josh feels are often left out in business transactions. Josh is currently a member of Business Networking International. BNI is a business networking group that allows members to meet and know professionals offering goods and services in the local area. Josh puts great emphasis on getting to know the people with whom you do business. “Knowing my customers heightens my personal accountability. Knowing that my customers are a part of my community makes me want to perform at my highest level in order to improve our community and set a standard by which all businesses in our community should operate.”

In August of 2009 Josh began working for Standard Heating & Cooling as an estimator and project manager. Josh is proud to work for a company that shares his views on customer service and diligence toward excellence in workmanship.
